Lower your Optimum Bill & Alternative Providers

How to lower your Optimum Cable TV/Internet bill in Hot Springs Village, a retirement community.

With record-high inflation eating away at our finances, consumers are looking for ways to reduce costs. Now might be a great time to call your cable and internet service provider to request a lower monthly payment.

It takes some skill and patience to negotiate with a customer service representative, but as surveys of CR members have confirmed time and again, it pays to haggle. And right now, as service providers face sharp competition and an increase in cord-cutters, the odds of scoring a better cable and internet deal may be in your favor.

When calling Optimum (888) 822-5151, always call from the phone number associated with your account, after the prompt on the line asks you if you’re calling about the account associated with your phone number you’ll be greeted by “How Can I help you Today?” to which you reply “Cancel my account”. The prompt will then ask you “Are you Moving?” to which you reply “No.”. The prompt will then say “I’m sorry, please let me get someone to help you with your account”. You will then be connected to a representative with the customer retention department. After verifying your account with the representative tell them that you’re on a fixed income, and you can no longer afford their service. They will then start to look for offers to lower your bill. Don’t EVER take the first offer. Sometimes they will attempt to get you on a larger bundle that will be more than your current bill. Tell them that if they can’t lower your bill for your current services that you’ll be going with (Insert whatever company you’ve chosen from the list below).

Call on a weekday. That’s when many other customers are busy at work. You’ll get shorter hold times, and, more importantly, higher-level reps with access to the best discount codes.

Don’t be too quick to say yes. Reps will give you the worst offers first. Turn those down, and they’ll move on to better deals.

Paying less for your home internet service may take a little hard work. If you are not successful on your first attempt at speaking with a customer service representative, try again. It may take multiple conversations to get the right person who will offer you a better deal on your monthly internet fees. If after multiple attempts, you still aren’t satisfied, ask them to cancel your account, and go with one of the services listed below.

“Kindness is key.” “Always be friendly and courteous.” Why? Because the person on the other end of the phone (or online chat, as the case may be) is much more likely to work with you if met with decency and patience. Your customer service rep isn’t doing an easy job and they want to help, so why not start on the right foot?
